Question of the Week #2

Being at the age you are, do you feel, with the possibility of an upcoming election in the Spring, you should have the right to vote? Do you feel your age group is "aware" enough? Why or why not?

Well, seeing as how I'm already old enough to vote(yes, I am 18), I would obviously have the right to vote. I'm sure people my age are "aware" enough. But I personally don't care all that much.

i think that are age group should have the right to vote and show are opinion , although i do not think people in are age no enough about are elections so my opinion is they should teach people in are age group more about the up coming elections and then we should have a right to vote on stuff we then should know about

I am old enough to vote in the spring and I think our age group should be allowed to vote because sometimes we are more aware of the political situation then the older crowd. We will be the people that are affected by political changes in the long term because the older crowd won't be as affected.

Honestly i don't think that many people my age are very aware about the politics in Canada. We know the basics, such as who's in power and what some of the major issues are, but most of us really don't understand or really care for that matter about what's happening. As long as the country's still alive most of us are content.

I think that people our age should have the right to vote. I think this because, we have a voice and that we should be able to have a say in whets happening in the government. Young people bring a different perspective to the table, which would allow our interest to be better represented. We always complain that the government acts on nothing that young people say, so maybe if we voted, they might just listen.

I don't really believe that at this age anyone is aware enough to vote. Teenagers in todays society don't watch the news, or pay much attention to Canadian politics, honestly they are probably more interested American politics. If a bunch of un educated teenagers were to vote, not knowing all of the factors, they would probably be able to swing the vote. Should that be able to happen? Unless teenagers are really informed on the issues they should not be able to vote. I just finished taking political science and I learned alot about government that I never would have known, this just shows how much we really do not know.

I feel That it's a hard thing to really tell when we are socially mature to vote. It's not about knowing politics, it's about knowing our province and country's problems and to figure which politician fits best to be the solution for the problems.
I feel as a youth rep for the liberal party for all ridings that we as students are not socially mature enough for the right to vote just yet!

I think we do deserve the right to vote because some people may be aware of the issues and shoul have a say in what party would represent our government best. But i dont feel the majority of our age group is "aware" enough because most of us dont care and are oblivious to what goes on not only in the world around us but in our own province.

I believe some of us are more aware then others. The interest is there, to be apart and learn but not everyone shares the same interest. I am legal ask to vote so i will be voting, i have just begun to become aware, and still have alot to learn but i believe if the interest is there we should be allowed to give our option and share our thoughts.

personaly i dont follow politics that closely so i dont feel the need to vote. the leagle age for voteing is 18 i think thats a good age and it should be kept at that.personally i dont think we know enough about it at our age to be allowed to vote.

If there is an upcoming election this spring I will have the right to vote because I will be 18. Honestly, I do not think I am informed enough to vote or to make a decision on who will run things. I don't know why I'm not really informed but I think it may have to do with that at my age I have other concerns.

Truthfully, I don't believe we should have the right to vote until we are older. There are few people my age who care or pay any attention to elections or even the news in general. Yes we should be able to voice our opionions, but maybe just not right now.

I think that if we were more educated about the topic and had a better understanding, we definitely should have the right. If we had the oportunity to learn more on the topic, then it would be better if we did vote considering it's us that will be living with the results in the future. I don't think we should have the right to vote unless we are taught more about it first.

to johnathan
how do you suppose they go about teaching our age group about the government and a possible upcoming election? Does school not teach us enough?

in my opinion i think that we should be able to vote if we want to. i do think that we are old enough and that most know enough about our political system that they should at least be given the choice to if they want to vote or not.
