Question of the Week #1
It has been a long time since we have used this blog site in World Issues, but it is time to dust it off as you will now be answering a question of the week!
This week's question: Is the INTERNET a right? or a privilege?
Privilege! In my opinion the use of the Internet is a privilege and not a right. I also believe that the government should be able to access your internet files and etc at anytime. The internet can be used by everyone, and if abused I believe that the government should be able to take away your privilege to use it. Internet is not a right because its not something you have by law.
The inernet is a right and is very much a privilege. The internet could be taken away from you at anytime. At school it is considered much more of a privilege then it is of a right. If you don't use the internet for school work only you can have the privilege of using the computers here taken away. At home you pay for your internet so it's more of a right you have. You pay for it so you can do whatever you want and use it as much as you like.
I feel the the internet is very much a privilege. Not everyone is able to have access to the internet, making it a privilege not a right. An example of a place that uses the internet as a privilege not a right, is in Egypt. The government took away internet from it's people, if it was a right they probably wouldn't of had the ability to do so. However, in todays society people treat the internet as a right, I think this is because it is so commanly used, especially by teenagers.
I think that the internet is a privilege. It is a privilege because it’s something that you’re not born with and I believe that it should be monitored and if being misused should be taken away. It also should be able to be checked by the government or police if crimes are being committed, and then be taken away. The internet should only be a privilege to people who will use it correctly.
The internet is very much a privilege. You dont NEED it, and it can be taken away at any time. Its not yours to own, we are lucky to have access to it whenever needed, others arn't as lucky. However if you mis-use the privilege you are at risk of losing it. If you dont treat it right it shouldnt be yours to use.
Privilege.. you dont actually need it, you can get just as much from tv and books.. but i still think that you should be able to have some privacy on the internet. and that the only time anyone should be able to go into your account is if you give them permission.
i believe that the internet is a privilege.if used improplery the internet can be taken away from you.also you dont own the internet so it can't be a right.
To me the internet is definatly a privilege. I believe that anyone should be allowed access to the web to use it for positive purposes. Although if it's useage is abused,and only if it is abused, that person should lose the privilage of its use.
I think its a privilege. Even though you are free to do what ever you want, your privilege should be taken away if your not using it apporiately. But you can argue that its a right, due to the fact you have a right to know about the news, events happening, and right to knowledge and reasearch, aswell you also have the right to commuinicate freely, which also could also tie into a right for internet access.
I believe in my opinion the internet is a right and a privillage. A lot of people think its not but thats because they maybe only reading one side of thing the government in egypt had used his right to take away internet because he wanted to stop people from knowing the truth about what was really going on over in egypt giving people lies and saying different then what was seen on live video's.
I think also the goernment should be able to (access files when they are needed if the rights of the internet is being abused) however i don't think they should be able to without an reason for who ever they think maybe doing wrong some people even the law somethings abuse their rules, and i don't believe it should be something taken easy when there are very important infor on computer such as RBC sign in they could even have access to it an (everything they have no rights too because nothing ever falls into the wrong hands now not at all). On another note there is laws an rules even when signing up for things online, you know the little thing down at the end of the page that says agree but no one ever really reads hahaha, you agree to follow the rules of the net and there is also people checking up chatrooms and other things however troubles like this it just shows how much they are doing there jobs making sure the people stay within the computer laws an it is there job to do so to make sure there following it and they have right.
Now think about it, its one of the laws is free speech and how would any of us really have it if we had no way of getting the word out beside the internet, would we be better knowing we couldn't talk to maybe friends or family and not being able to use the internet because one maybe had the idea to take it away making it unfair for everyone an in a away a right and a privilege at the same time. This is a thing that you kind a have to take the good and the bad with the internet i fine it funny that the government's lie or in egypt did him no good and the truth came out to hit him in the butt lol this was just like a little kid getting mad over nothing because he couldn't have this way and wanted to stay home in egypt so he did a lot of stupid things like hit the people hard and take away the inertnet really being childish in a way when you think about it.
I believe it is a right. You should have the right to use the internet whenever you need, and you should be smart about it. If you abuse it, then that right should be revoked.
The internet is definitely a privilige. If the internet is used improperly, such as at school, it can be taken away from you. Also, not everyone has the ability to use the internet, such as payments, etc. The internet is not provided to people unless it is paid for, therefore it is not a right.
I would say the internet is very much a privelege.We are very lucky to have the use of the internet, but not everyone has that opportunity. I do believe that if you are using it for the wrong reasons the government should have the right to take it away from you.
To me it's not so cut and dry. we all have freedom to get information that's our right. However certain means to recieve the information isn't in a proper means. We all have computers, and we all have internet thats a form of right. but you can still get arrested for certain things that you retrieve on the internet. so we all have a right to own one we all have the right the right to pay for the internet, yet it's a privlege to use it!
To me it's not so cut and dry. we all have freedom to get information that's our right. However certain means to recieve the information isn't in a proper means. We all have computers, and we all have internet thats a form of right. but you can still get arrested for certain things that you retrieve on the internet. so we all have a right to own one we all have the right the right to pay for the internet, yet it's a privlege to use it!

how is it a right? you dont own it, its just yours to use for the time being

I don't know. It's become a part of our culture. Things today just can't operate without the internet (or close to).
