Question of the Week #9

Knowing what occurred with the situation in Libya, how should the international community be approaching the current events in Syria? (Please provide a rationale for your statements and not merely opinion.)

So far the death toll in Syria is up to 453 people dead. The death toll for Lybia has exceeded 1,400 people. We have to put a stop to the killing in Syria before it gets out of hand like Lybia has, we can not let this stuff go on any longer. The international community have to start stoping things before they get out of hand to many people are being killed in the world for no reason, its terrible.

Syrian opposition demands democratic change however a lot of people are questioning if they should or not because changing to
democracy will "safeguard the nation from falling into a period of violence, chaos and civil war." but however everyone knows things like this will come no matter what if government still doesn't want to step down he’s the only one who can really end this all but won't, there is now there is roughly 120 killed over the weekend just in that small period of time i think the international community needs to step it up a little if they plan on getting any where.
Do i think the international community should have this is their hands right now even after current events? Yes to much gone on not only effecting Syria but everyone and the people can't do it on their own this is not just their fight now but are fight too.
When i even did some digging I came cross a cbc comment from Syrian oppositions groups
"If the Syrian president does not wish to be recorded in history as a leader of this transition period, there is no alternative left for Syrians except to move forward along the same path as did the Tunisians, Egyptians and Libyans before them," the opposition said in their statement.

For times like this they are willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done an get what they want and they make it pretty clear in comments no one is giving up because this is a big change for there people an all them.

I would have to agree with Cripps. the international community can NOT wait to stop things. Why let others suffer when you know you have the power to help?

So Much Death So Much Anger. What Can We actually do?it's a great gift language how we can talk about what needs to be done. but when do they talk about how it should be done and then who is going to do it? death is all around us kicking our a$$es yet. all we can do is talk about it because we cant stop it not yet.

What can we do? all we do is talk about it because we know not what to do! the great invention of language which allows us to convey information. but rarely brings action because we speak of what needs to be done but never how to do it. Death is all around us and we can't stop it not yet because, we don't know how!

The international community has to realize that even though Syria does not have as much to offer us as Lybia does there is no right reason why we should not be helping them. We should get there asap before the death toll in Syria rises more than it already has.
