Question of the Week #8
Fighting rages in Ivory Coast; 800 dead in one town alone
Why is it that the international community has been so slow to act in the Ivory Coast? (Yes, the UN is there...)
The international community has been slow to act in the ivory coast because they are distracted by over world events such as the rioting in Libya and the disaster in Japan. Maybe it is also because we just don't know what the situation is. These two reasons go hand n' hand.
In my opinion I believe the reason we are so slow to act on this is because it could get real messy, real fast. Also another reason I believe we havent done anything there yet is because there is sooooooooooo nuch other stuff happening in the world at this time that its hard to be everywhere doing everything at the same time. However I think we should be doing something at the Ivory Coast now.
Due to the fact that other things in the world such as the nuclear reactor in Japan... and protestors in libya so the world is focusing more on them but they should go help these people to cause they obviously need help if this many people have been found in one place dead
I believe it's because there's a lot of other things going on, that seem more potentially dangerous at the moment. We can't help every country out there that needs help, so we pick and choose the ones that are either a)the worst off, or b)as hit close to home for us (effected us in some way)
I believe that the international community are so slow to get to the Ivory Coast it's because we can't be everywhere. Not that we are really doing much anywhere else either. We should be over there, it seems like we keep waiting for things to go from bad to worse. I think to much of the communities focus is on Japan right now, and bits and pieces of Lybia, and they do deserve the attention as well. Hopefully soon we will begin to help everyone that we possibly can.
i think the reason we are so slow to react is because of all the other stuff that is going on in the world.there are so many places that need our help it would be impossible to be everywhere.
i think the international community is slow helping these people is because of what is happening in other parts of the world like whats happening in japan.
I believe that the world was so slow to react to this crisis because of the fact that the ivory coast doesn't have oil or anything else that all countries need to stay a float. All attention was drawn to Libya because that are a huge supplier of the world oil. Also, the president lost the election and still wouldnt leave. This makes the situatioin different because of fear. Countries are more then likely scared to get involved because of what could happen
The international community has been so slow to act in the ivory coast because there focused on helping Japan and Libya that they just havent't got to them yet and there's only so much we can do.
As an international community we can only do so much. When it comes to disasters such as theses ones yes we care but is there alot we can really do, without getting ourselves stuck in the middle? and possibly making things worst then they are now. They maybe thinking things over so that when they do go to help,and start off slow they will help in the end instead of making it worst.
The international community has been so slow to act in the ivory coast because there focused on helping Japan and Libya that they just havent't got to them yet and there's only so much we can do.
I feel like helping Libya was a step and maybe outside forces will or wont get more envlolved. I think people are still a little hesitant to step in to other places with these situations. but I also think that if people dont do something soon enough, the ivory coast could end up even worse than libya. There are many different things happening in many different places and we cant help but label them as a big deal or not, so likewise, we pay attention to the worst case.
I think that the international community is being slow on acting on the ivory coast for multiple reasons. One being, it isn't mentioned on local news, more everyday people watch ctv in the morning and dinner verus cnn or something else, it isn't being brocasted enough. Another being, what does the ivory coast have for Canada?!? or other Countries?!? Japan exports alot of stuff into Canada, and Libya is a major world supplier for oil. Hence, we NEED them in order to run smoother, we help them, in order to get something we want and/or need back. Another being, so much is happening at this moment in the international community, How is the UN and helping countries supose to be in all these places at once?!
I believe the international community has been so slow to react to the Ivory Coast because they simply do not know where to look first. So many places in the world right now need international attention and unfortunately it is not possible to be everywhere at once. Also there is no major world equities in the Ivory Coast meaning that the world will not come to a standstill if the fighting continues.
I feel too many things are going on at once. They can only multi task so much before they stretch their limits. They're doing what they can as it stands of now. But give them time to straighten everything else out, because the Japan disaster which is still going on. Libya, Egypt still needs some work done. There is just simply too much to handle.
